The park is asking for the public’s help in naming the alligator, which comes from the home of leucistic alligators discovered in a Louisiana swamp in 1987. The blue-eyed neonate is the first recorded all-white crocodile in the world, a descendant of these crocodiles. Three of the seven remaining alligators from the nest are in Gatorland.
Leucistic alligators are the rarest genetic variant of American alligators. They differ from albino crocodiles, which have pink eyes and have completely lost their pigment.
Already at the beginning of 2024, visitors to the park will be able to see the female and her brother in normal color.
“But for now, we continue to keep them in a safe place where we can closely monitor their health and growth,” McHugh added.
