The Israeli military has begun supplying sea water to the tunnel system, which, according to the country’s leadership, is used by militants of the Palestinian Hamas movement. The newspaper reports this The Wall Street Journalciting US administration officials.

The process of flooding the tunnels, according to preliminary estimates, may last for several weeks. The publication clarified that the IDF took this step to destroy the Hamas infrastructure.

At the same time, the WSJ authors noted that it is currently impossible to calculate the consequences that may occur when tunnels are flooded.

If serious consequences arise in the form of an impact on groundwater, soil, water supply and other systems in Gaza, President Joe Biden and his administration could find themselves in a “difficult situation,” the newspaper noted.

Biden previously said that the United States will supply weapons to Israel until Hamas is completely destroyed.
