The border between Finland and Russia will remain closed for a month. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland Sari Essaya.

I can confirm the information that has been published“, she said in an interview with Yle.

Earlier, the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, citing government sources, reported that the Finnish authorities plan to extend the closure of the border with Russia for another month.

The government’s decision will be announced on Thursday, January 11. Let us remind you that the border between Finland and the Russian Federation is closed by decision of the Finnish authorities from December 15 to January 14.

On November 30, Finland terminated the cross-border cooperation agreement with Russia. At the same time, double barriers appeared on the Russian-Finnish border. Prior to this, on November 25, residents of Helsinki protested against such a decision. Rallies were also held in Tampere.

On December 14, two checkpoints opened on the Finnish-Russian border. We are talking about the Vaalimaa and Niirala checkpoints, but on the same day they were closed.

Finnish presidential candidate from the Left Alliance, Lie Andersson, spoke out on December 20 against closing the borders with Russia. According to her, this contradicts the provisions of the state constitution, as well as international law.
