Ukraine would not be able to accept American F-16 fighters, even if Western countries decided to supply them. This was pointed out by the speaker of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yuriy Ignat.
The leaders of European countries have previously spoken about their readiness to transfer these fighters to Ukraine, Ignat said on the Rada TV channel. However, this option is not suitable for Ukraine now.
“We need them to work, to cover the airspace,” – Ignat explained.
The speaker of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces explained that today in Ukraine there is no infrastructure necessary to maintain the F-16, and there are also no pilots who could fly these fighters.
“Partners are ready to transfer equipment to us, but the question is that everything is ready in Ukraine so that it (the equipment) works,” – said Ignat.
He also did not give a specific time frame for when Ukraine will be able to accept the fourth-generation F-16 multirole light fighters.
Let us recall that Ignat previously stated that they are afraid to import F-16s to Ukraine for fear of their destruction by the Russian military. According to him, thanks to good intelligence, soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces know the places where Ukrainian soldiers store their weapons and ammunition.
