For the first time in 8 years: Britain will launch a nuclear missile – media

Journalists say the tests are the final hurdle to HMS Vanguard returning to service as part of Britain’s nuclear deterrent fleet.

Britain will attempt to launch a nuclear missile for the first time since a failed attempt in 2016. This was reported by The Sun.

In the next few days the Royal Navy plans to attempt to launch a nuclear weapon. Official shipping warnings have been issued following the entry of nuclear submarine HMS Vanguard into the Atlantic this week.

The submarine plans to attempt an unarmed missile launch after completing a seven-year refit in Plymouth, according to the publication. This trial is the final step before HMS Vanguard returns to service as part of the UK’s nuclear deterrent fleet.

HMS Vanguard is capable of carrying up to 16 Trident 2 D5 missiles, each of which can be equipped with multiple British-made warheads. These warheads are 20 times more powerful than the weapons dropped on Japan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.

It is predicted that the submarine can launch one unarmed missile from a distance of 90 km from the east coast of the USA.

The US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency issued a shipping alert indicating the missile’s expected route before impact in the mid-Atlantic. The rocket must travel approximately 6 thousand kilometers to fall into the sea between Brazil and West Africa.

Let’s remember, on January 26, the media wrote that the USA was planning to plant nuclear weapons in Great Britain. This may happen for the first time in the last 15 years in the face of the increasing threat from the Russian Federation.
