Events in Transnistria: appeal to Russia and complaints about Moldova, what is known (video)

The Russian Federation told the “deputies” of Transnistria that it always supports the “citizens”. Meanwhile, officials of the unrecognized republic complained about allegations of “genocide” committed by the legitimate authorities of Moldova.

On February 28, the “Congress of Deputies” began in the so-called “Transnistrian Moldavian Republic” (“PMR”), where activists from unrecognized regions gathered. A possible decision of the congress could be a call to the Russian Federation to “help the PMR”, which is allegedly under pressure from the legitimate government of Moldova. Events in unrecognized Transnistria are reported on the local information Telegram channel “TSV Pridnestrovie”.

Moldova and PMR – details of the congress

The meeting of politicians of the unrecognized “republic” started on February 28 at 11:00 in the city of Tiraspol, the capital of the “PMR”. 600 people gathered in the hall of the “Republic Palace”: the most active ones speak from the rostrum and explain their situation. The speakers complain about the actions of the Moldovan government, which has announced its intention to collect taxes from previously uncontrolled territories. Speeches were made in Ukrainian: “The deputy” was worried about the abolition of the “preferential regime for our enterprises.” Additionally, Vadim Krasnoselsky, the so-called “president” of Transnistria, accused Moldova of “genocide”.

PMR activists are concerned about innovations in Chisinau and are therefore planning a series of appeals. As can be seen from the draft decision distributed to those who attended the event, the interlocutors include the UN, the European Union, the CIS, other organizations, as well as the Russian Federation and President Vladimir Putin.

According to preliminary information, the resolution will seek help from Moscow, citing Russia’s supposedly “positive” experience in resolving the “conflict” in the Dniester. Among other things, Russians are offered to become “guarantors and intermediaries” in contacts with the legitimate authorities of Moldova.

At 14:28, a message appeared about the voting results. They supported the draft resolution at the “Congress of Deputies” of the unrecognized republic.

We should also point out that Moldovan President Maia Sandu has not yet responded to the events taking place in unrecognized Transnistria. The politician’s last post on the social network X concerns He met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Tirana (Albania). Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the “PMR” call and noted that they always take into account the demands of “citizens” and that these demands will be evaluated by “relevant units”.

“Congress of Deputies” in PMR and GUR

The first reports about the possibility of “PMR” addressed to the Russian Federation appeared on February 22. Gennady Chorba, representative of opposition forces in the unrecognized region, announced that local politicians will hold a meeting on February 28, where the relevant decision can be taken. In the meantime, they will organize a series of provocations and riots that will undermine the situation in unrecognized Transnistria. Representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense assured that they do not expect any objections to accession to the Russian Federation.

History of “PMR” – 1991-2024.

The so-called “Republic of Transnistria Moldova” came into existence in August 1991. Local pro-Kremlin politicians have stated that they do not want to live as part of an independent Republic of Moldova. To support pro-Russian forces, the Russian Federation deployed units of the 14th Army to the region, which was supposed to guarantee that no outside force would destroy the new formation.

In 2006, a “referendum” was held on the territory of the “PMR”, in which the people were asked whether they wanted to join the Russian Federation. According to the announced results, the majority supported the proposal. On this basis, the then president of the “republic” applied for participation in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, but the request was rejected at that time.

As I wrote earlier, there was a threat of a possible attack from the territory of Ukraine “PMR” during a large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in 2022. Focus. Representatives of the Russian authorities made it clear that they planned to land troops in Odessa to “transcend a corridor” leading to unrecognized Transnistria.

The area still contains the remains of the Russian unit’s arsenal, located in warehouses near the town of Kolbasnaya. According to preliminary estimates, hundreds of thousands of Soviet-caliber bullets may be in storage. At the same time, the total number of soldiers on the territory of the PMR is approximately 3 thousand people.

“PMR” – How is it similar to “DPR” and “LPR”?

Let us note that after 2006, Russia carried out actions several times in the territory of the former USSR, and subsequently unrecognized regions were formed. Especially thanks to such a decision, unrecognized republics were established in the north of Georgia – Abkhazia and South Ossetia (2008-2009). Moreover, when the hybrid war began in Donbass in 2014, the “republics” formed there, namely the “Donetsk People’s Republic” and the “Lugansk People’s Republic”, also held fake “referendums”. In these “referendums” it was claimed that Ukrainians supported the proposal for “independence from Ukraine” and joining the Russian Federation. A similar “referendum” was held in occupied Crimea. As a result, the Kremlin decided to annex Crimea, and subsequently the “DPR” and “LPR” were annexed – the corresponding decision was made public on the eve of the invasion on February 24, 2022.

Another call for annexation came from the occupied areas of the Zaporozhye, Kherson and Kharkov regions: they tried to hold a “referendum” there in the autumn of 2022. Following the consequences of pro-Kremlin events, Russia announced the annexation of new regions of Ukraine. At the same time, the annexed territories and Crimea are specified in the Constitution of the Russian Federation as integral territories.
