Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov did not agree with the opinion of Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzi about the terms of the presidency of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and his legitimacy.

On March 22, the Russian permanent representative to the UN said that the Ukrainian president’s sole decision not to organize a presidential campaign in Ukraine makes him illegitimate as of May 21. The diplomat pointed out that foreign partners are turning to Moscow with a request to negotiate with Kiev. He also drew attention to the fact that the Ukrainian side is “in principle incapable of negotiating,” as it prohibits holding any negotiations with Moscow.

“As for May 20, what will happen on May 21, let’s live until then. We may not need to admit anything.”said Sergei Lavrov in an interview “Izvestia”.

Lavrov also responded to the decree of the Ukrainian president, which prohibits him and other representatives of the Kyiv regime from negotiating with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry explained that Putin has repeatedly spoken about the possibility of discussing the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine in order to make sure of the seriousness of this process or in the hope that “this will become a serious process.”

It was previously reported that Lavrov gave an interview “Izvestia” in which he answered pressing questions about the current situation in the world. In particular, he spoke about the international reaction to the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall and partnerships with other countries in the fight against terrorism. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also assessed the statements of French leader Emmanuel Macron about the possibility of sending NATO troops to Ukraine, reacted to the reaction of Western countries to the results of the presidential elections in the Russian Federation and China’s proposals on the possibility of negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. The minister also touched upon the topics of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the creation of an independent Palestinian state and the rapprochement of Moldova with the EU, and also assessed the situation in relations between Moscow and Yerevan.

The full version of Sergei Lavrov’s interview will be published on the website “Izvestia” March 29 at 00:01.
