Colombia has 20 Mi-17 helicopters purchased from the Russian Federation, and only nine of them are in good condition. The other nine are in the process of preservation and two need repairs, journalists said.
The United States offered Colombia to purchase all the Mi-17 helicopters it received from the Russian Federation for $ 300 million for further shipment of the aircraft to Ukraine. But Washington refused. This was reported by Infodefensa.
In the broadcast, it was stated that the USA wanted to purchase all of the aircraft that have been serving Colombia continuously for 27 years, even if they are not in working condition.
Journalists noted that Colombian President Gustavo Petro supports neutrality in Russia’s war against Ukraine. He agreed with the army’s position and opposed the transfer of the Mi-17 because the army wants to preserve medium military transport helicopters despite the gradual decommissioning of the aircraft.
In addition, the country cannot receive aid worth approximately 20 million 275 thousand dollars for the repair and parts supply of helicopters due to the sanctions imposed on companies in the Russian Federation and Colombia. As a result, the agreement between the Russian Federation and Colombia was suspended.
There are 20 units in Colombia, only nine of which are airworthy. Nine more sides are in the process of being preserved, while the remaining two are damaged. The helicopters need repairs and are waiting for the necessary spare parts for restoration.
Let us remind you that Germany announced a new military aid package to Ukraine on March 28. These include unmanned aerial vehicles, ammunition for combat vehicles, artillery shells and armored vehicles.
On the same day, it was reported in the media that Ukraine would receive one million ammunition at the initiative of the Czech Republic. At first, it was expected to purchase 800 thousand bullets, but later this figure was increased.
