The right-hand drive ZAZ-965S was produced in 1962-1963, and only 650 of these cars were assembled. None of these “Zaporozhets” has survived to this day.
Photos of a very rare ZAZ-965S have been published. This humped “Zaporozhets” steering wheel is located on the right. They mentioned the car on the Hyser website.
It turned out that the ZAZ-965S is not a version for the UK, India or other countries with left-hand traffic. The car was created for the USSR and was not supplied to other countries (although export versions of the usual ZAZ-965 are available).
Unusual “Zaporozhets” was created specifically for mail delivery, and the letter “C” in the name means “Communication”. The position of the steering wheel on the right was designed to facilitate the work of the postman – it was easier for him to get out of the car to the curb with a heavy bag, since he did not have to jump out of the car.
Visually, the post ZAZ-965S differs from the standard model with plugs that replace the rear windows with the inscription “Contact”. In the cabin, instead of the rear seats, they equipped a compartment for carrying letters and packages. Humpback “Zaporozhets” with its own weight of 650 kg could carry up to 150 kg of cargo.
The “Zaporozhets” post was produced in 1962-1963, and a total of about 650 cars of this type were produced. They were equipped with a standard 887 cc engine with 27 hp. with., allowing to develop 90 km / h. Not a single ZAZ-965S has survived to this day, as the decommissioned stagecoach was disposed of.
