Unfulfilled rival of Porsche 911: canceled BMW supercar declassified (photo)

A few years ago, BMW was developing the I16 supercar. It was planned that the streamlined coupe would be equipped with a 600-horsepower hybrid unit.

Images of an unknown BMW I16 supercar have surfaced on the internet. The sports model was supposed to replace the BMW i8 Coupe in 2020 or 2021, but they decided not to launch it. Its creator, BMW designer Domagoj Dukec, spoke about the secret car on Instagram.

The BMW I16 supercar is the production version of the 2019 BMW Vision M Next concept. The car project was implemented in just 12 months. The two-seat coupe was supposed to be much more powerful and faster than the i8 model, which was discontinued in 2020. The new BMW I16 can challenge the Porsche 911 Turbo.

The design features the famous 1979 BMW M1 Coupe model; the car has a similar profile and two brand logos on the rear. The stylish BMW I16 features swept-back headlights and a wide split grille.

The BMW supercar was planned to be equipped with a hybrid setup that includes a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo-four engine and a pair of electric motors. The total return had to be at least 600 forces. In addition, a large battery that could travel 96 km on electric power was also being prepared for the coupe.

According to Domagoj Dukech, the main reason for the abandonment of the model was the COVID-19 epidemic, which caused the closure of automobile factories and the collapse of automobile sales. But now they have decided to declassify the project.
