Only three Buehrig Carry-Roof Coupes were produced. The extravagant sports car in retro style was the most expensive American car of the early 80s.

A rare 1981 Buehrig Carriage-Roof Coupe in the USA is up for auction at Premiere Auction. This is one of the most unusual cars in the USA. They talked about it on the auction website.

Buehrig Carriage-Roof Coupe is the work of famous American designer Gordon Buehrig. He became famous as the designer of the Cord 812, Lincoln Continental MKII and Auburn Speedster.

Gordon Buehrig has never been afraid of bold design decisions. It’s no surprise that the Buehrig Carry Roof has a rather unusual look with retro-style elements. The car was assembled by hand.

The interior of the Buehrig is trimmed with expensive leather and wood. It was equipped with air conditioning, power steering, power windows and a powerful audio system. At the back there is a small trunk with the original hinged lid.

The Buehrig Cargo Roof is based on the Chevrolet Corvette C3 chassis. The sports car also shared a power unit consisting of a 5.7-liter 190-horsepower V8 and a 3-speed automatic transmission.

They planned to produce 50 cars in total, but only three were assembled. The controversial design and sky-high price of $130,000 ($460,000 at today’s exchange rate) attracted buyers. This particular car has traveled only 4220 km. It was in a garage and perfectly preserved.

By the way, a car from the movie “I, Victory and Berlin” will be auctioned in Ukraine.

Moreover Focus He wrote that the rarest Gelendvagen went under the hammer.
