Dollar rate in 2023: what changes can Ukrainians expect in the foreign exchange market?

Thanks to international support, the Ukrainian economy did not collapse under war conditions and did not fall into the abyss in 2022, despite the devaluation of the national currency.

The dollar exchange rate in Ukraine in 2023 is unlikely to exceed the mark previously set by the government for the currency – UAH 42 / dollar. This was expressed by People’s Deputy Alexander Marikovsky, member of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development.

“Ukraine has shown that it has good tools that allow it to “escape” from the recession caused by the crisis due to the aggression of the Russian Federation against our state. This, in particular, is the issuance of military bonds, which sold for an amount of more than 200 billion hryvnia, ”said Marikovsky.

The deputy also noted that despite all the negative forecasts for 2022, the Ukrainian hryvnia did not depreciate much.

“According to the situation in the country, we now have a sufficient exchange rate. There is a common forecast of experts, who agree with their assessment that this year the Ukrainian hryvnia will remain at the level of 41 hryvnia per dollar. At the same time, the government has set the average bar at 42 hryvnia per dollar,” he stressed. politician.

Convinced that the dollar will cost 50 hryvnia or more in 2023, he advised not to pay attention to the panic forecasts of some economists.

The dollar’s value on the black market today, according to the Ministry of Finance:

  • purchase – 40.44 UAH / dollar (-0.00 UAH);

What happens to the hryvnia exchange rate during the war?

29.25 UAH/USD was the official hryvnia exchange rate at the start of a full-scale war. At this level, it was fixed by the Central Bank to maintain the stability of the financial system.

Recall, according to the NBU forecast, in 2023 inflation in Ukraine will slow down due to consistent economic policy with the support of international partners. At the same time, consumer prices will continue to rise.
