On Wednesday, May 3, Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar said that negotiations on the renewal of the grain agreement will start on May 5th. This is the news of CNN Turk.
According to the minister, the deputy defense ministers of Ukraine, Russia and Turkey will hold talks in Istanbul to renew the agreement. He expressed his hope that the negotiations would proceed without a hitch, as the agreement is crucial to ensuring stability and providing countries in need.
“We hope that the grain agreement will continue without a hitch. Because this agreement is very important for the peace and stability of the region as well as for the countries in need. In this context, we can say that the parties are ready to extend the time. We want this initiative to continue smoothly,” he said.
According to journalists, on April 18, Akar held a meeting with Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, where politicians discussed the details of future negotiations on the renewal of the grain agreement.
Recall that on April 25, Russia accused Ukraine of attacking the bases of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol and threatened not to extend the “grain deal”.
One day later, on April 26, due to the sabotage of the Russian Federation, 4 ships could not leave the ports of Chernomorsk, Odessa and Yuzhny and had to wait for additional time for their passage to be approved. After that, Russia once again suspended the “grain” agreement.
