Russia remains open to negotiations on gas supplies to the European market and is waiting for proposals from potential buyers, Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said on Wednesday, November 1.

“We are open to negotiations on resuming supplies, but there must be an offer from the buyer”he said during the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.

According to the head of the department, one of the most promising directions for gas exports are routes to Pakistan and India, in addition, the ministry places great hopes on swap supplies to Iran.

Russia did not close off the possibility of supplying natural gas to the markets of Western countries; Moscow remains a reliable partner in this area, Shulginov concluded.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Gazprom head Alexey Miller said that business representatives in Western countries would like the return of Russian gas to their markets. According to him, the gas market for the countries of the collective West will remain scarce in the coming decades against the backdrop of increasing demand, but it will not be possible to reverse this trend.
