The era of Liz Truss as Prime Minister of Great Britain has come to an end. The head of government lasted only 45 days and set a unique anti-record – none of the British prime ministers ruled less.

The British did not believe in the future of their prime minister so much that they even staged an impromptu competition. Which will happen faster: will Truss leave 10 Downing Street, or will the vegetable completely rot?

British bookmakers have started accepting bets. The inhabitants of the kingdom expected that lettuce would be able to fight Thatcher with a score of 2:0 for at least 35 days.

The organizers organized a YouTube broadcast so that the rest of the British could watch live what spoils faster – lettuce or cabinet policy. Liz Truss headed the government after the summer resignation of Boris Johnson, who also got bogged down in numerous scandals and marked the “premierfall” in Europe. Under Johnson, Truss proved to be one of the most ardent “hawks” from the Tories and was not going to leave the intended path.

During her visit to Moscow, the Foreign Minister did not deny herself a walk around Red Square in a fur coat and hat, desperately copying Thatcher’s image.

Truss was dubbed “the hand grenade of the Conservatives” by the British media for her violent activities, and she tried to prove her unpredictability by any means, making harsh statements. And, of course, she preached a strictly anti-Russian course, intending to “destroy the economy” of Russia.

UK economic collapse

Surprisingly, fellow Tories had no serious complaints about Truss, who remained in good standing among the Conservatives. Therefore, experts were not surprised when the foreign minister beat out Rishi Sunak and other competitors in the elections.

“I promise to lower taxes! Achieve economic growth and build the economy, cope with the energy crisis! So that you do not have to pay so much energy bills. I will solve the problem with energy supply” – with such loud words, Truss spoke to the conservatives, thanking her colleagues for their support.

But the rule of the Truss did not immediately work out – after the mourning for the queen, other troubles fell upon Britain. The economy of the island state was already seriously affected by the economic war unleashed by the West against Russia, and the conservatives decided to finish it off with joint efforts.

Truss took on the role of a kamikaze, rushing towards the financial abyss. The pound sterling collapsed, prices skyrocketed, business owners just shrugged their shoulders – no one is safe from collapse in this situation.

The plan of the Cabinet of Ministers “to save the economy” turned into a nightmare. Reforms and tax breaks would only benefit the rich – it is not surprising that in a few weeks Liz Truss managed to become the most unpopular British prime minister.

She easily left behind her predecessors – David Cameron, who “brewed” Brexit, Theresa May, who remained out of work, as well as Boris Johnson, whose scandals did not leave the front pages of the tabloids.

One month as prime minister was enough to understand that this man does not belong at 10 Downing Street. First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon on the air ITV News stated that a few weeks with Liz were a disaster. And the main problem is precisely in economic policy.

“Independence is about being responsible for your own decisions, not having decisions like Brexit forced on you” Sturgeon added.

The transatlantic partnership did not work out either. Instead of lending a shoulder to the prime minister, US President Joe Biden gently hinted at Truss’s incompetence. According to him, the chaos in the United Kingdom was quite predictable.

“I wasn’t the only one who thought it was a mistake” – Biden noted, speaking about the economic program of the British conservatives.

The only one who until the last believed in the position of Liz Truss with her anti-Russian rhetoric was Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. In a telephone conversation with the prime minister, he expressed hope for “UK leadership” in consolidating support for Ukraine. Asking for help, he did not pay attention to the weakness of the Cabinet.

The denouement came quickly, but few people were surprised – in recent weeks, Liz Truss was considered a “lame duck” and the next candidate for the post of prime minister was selected.

Numerous demonstrators filled the streets of the cities – the inhabitants of the kingdom demonstratively burn their bills and complain that they cannot pay for the electricity. And attempts to blame everything on Russia no longer worked – American excuses in the spirit of “Putin’s price increase” do not work here.

“In political terms, Liz Truss is a ‘walking corpse’: an unelected prime minister from the Conservative Party without legitimacy, authority and now supporters,” – the British media shied away from Liz.

Against the backdrop of the fall of the Conservatives, the Laborites raised their heads – the map of Britain turned red sharply, demonstrating dissatisfaction with the policies of the Tories.

But the question still remains: where can we get a strong leader who will be remembered not only for attacks on Moscow and a lost battle with lettuce? Johnson has already proposed his candidacy, however, not Boris, but the movie star Dwayne the Rock Johnson. In addition, there are good chances to take the vacant position with the leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt and Boris Johnson, who can still return to active political activity.

Political scientist, HSE Associate Professor Andrey Suzdaltsev in an interview with REN TV recalled that there are several factors that could have led to such a quick resignation.

And they realized that Liz would lose the election, every day she plays against her. Especially since the lady turned out to be big a lover of scandal, which is risky for a politician.
