China reacts to Zelensky’s offer to meet with Xi Jinping

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that China maintains dialogue with all parties in the Russia-Ukraine war, which he calls the “Ukraine crisis”.

China has always been in contact with all parties to the Russia-Ukraine war, including Kiev. This was announced by Chinese Foreign Ministry representative Mao Ning on Monday, January 27, Reuters reported.

Journalists asked Mao Ning about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s attempt to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The representative of PRC diplomacy avoided a direct response and described the war as the “Ukrainian crisis”.

“China’s position on the ‘Ukrainian crisis’ is consistent and very clear. As a result, to call for peace, encourage dialogue and bring a political solution to the crisis. We have always been in contact with interested parties, including Ukraine.” said Mao Ning.

What did Vladimir Zelensky say?

On February 24, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his desire to meet in person with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping. According to the president, negotiations with the PRC leader will benefit Beijing and Kiev, as well as security in the world.

“We have a large trade turnover with China. It’s not just about the war. The point is, we are states interested in maintaining economic relations,” Zelensky said.

China’s “Peace Plan”

On February 24, the anniversary of the total war, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs published its 12-point “peace plan”. The first point is “respect for the sovereignty of all countries”. Among other things, diplomats of the Celestial Empire urge the world to abandon the Cold War mentality and restart peace negotiations.

Also on February 24, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Beijing can stand on the first point in drafting its so-called “peace plan” for Ukraine – respect for the sovereignty of all countries.

On the same day, David Arakhamia, head of the Ukrainian People’s Deputy and People’s Servant parliamentary faction, said that the Chinese “peace plan” is an unacceptable position. Arakhamia stressed that Beijing wants to play with Russia’s negotiating position, but cannot accept Ukraine’s terms.
