Reznikov spoke about negotiations with the Russian Federation in Minsk: “We doubted that we would return home”

According to the head of the defense ministry, feeling a deep hatred for the enemy, he accepted with great difficulty President Volodymyr Zelensky’s request to be part of the Ukrainian delegation.

Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov said that during the first three meetings with the Russians in Minsk, the Ukrainian delegation did not feel safe. He mentioned this in an interview with the Argentine newspaper La Razón published on Sunday, April 16.

Asked what was the most difficult day for him since the beginning of the war, Reznikov spoke about the negotiations with Russia. According to the head of the defense ministry, it was difficult for him to decide to participate in the negotiation process with the representatives of the aggressor country.

“When the President asked me, it was very difficult to say yes because I had a deep hatred inside. As a negotiator, I know this is a feeling that serves no purpose. It was terrible to have to shake hands with the President.” I will say that most of us think so when we see these shots,” Reznikov recalls.

He also added that in the first three visits to Belarus, the members of the Ukrainian delegation were not sure that they would return.

“There were four meetings, three in Belarus and one in Turkey. I’ll tell you that we didn’t feel safe at all during the first three and we even doubted that we would ever go home. It was a challenge,” Reznikov said.

Recall also that in an interview with La Razón, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, that the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered less losses in the all-out war with Russia than the number of earthquake victims in Turkey.

Earlier, on March 14, Reznikov said that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, no country will give up nuclear weapons. According to the head of the Ministry of Defense, the Russian attack was the result of a mistake of the West – the fear of not provoking Moscow and “doing its business as usual.”
