The US aims to end the war in Ukraine before the end of this year. The Italian newspaper La Republica writes this in an article published on May 13.
Evidence of this is the acceleration of US action. Western media reported that Washington insisted on resolving the conflict by the end of 2023, with some even mentioning a shorter period until the fall. In parallel, diplomatic ties are being strengthened to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
According to the publication, Europe is also striving for a faster victory. It is noted that the impulse from the United States is not accidental and can be associated with the division of Europe in relation to Russia’s war against Ukraine. Journalists write that France and Germany tried to close this issue as soon as possible, but continued to insist on the positions of northeastern European countries, including Poland, England, the Baltic states and partly Scandinavia.
At the same time, according to the publication, the goal of ending the war as soon as possible through a settlement with Beijing, which has shown visible activity on the negotiating front, can be achieved.
US target in case of Ukrainian victory
La Reppublica is also speculating about the US target. Journalists believe that Washington is trying to give Europe more autonomy under the Atlantic Pact. Also, given the upcoming elections and Donald Trump’s possible return to the presidency, the United States may take action politically. They intend to prevent a repeat of the situation where Trump “brings NATO to the brink of suicide,” according to the publication.
As the authors of the article point out, the US presidential election will be held in 2024, and the allies are striving to defeat Russia until then. Analysts have repeatedly said that for Joe Biden, this will be a significant bonus in the campaign program.
