According to Sergei Nikiforov, there were actually no personal negotiations between the two heads of state. Journalists claimed that the Lithuanian President met with them separately.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky did not meet with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda. News about the negotiations turned out to be misinformation. This was stated by the head of state’s press secretary, Sergei Nikiforov, in a comment to Suspilny on September 21.
According to him, Vladimir Zelensky, during his official visit to the United States, did not hold an official meeting with the presidents of Lithuania and Poland, as Lithuanian journalists reported the previous day.
“Presumably, Nausėda met separately with Zelensky and Duda, but there was no official meeting with the President of Ukraine,” the publication said.
Meeting of the presidents of Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland in the USA: what is known
On September 21, LRT broadcast, citing the administration of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, reported that world leaders met for negotiations and discussed easing the procedure for transporting grain through Poland, as well as increasing transit through Lithuania, which could significantly reduce tensions.
“Differences between Ukraine and Poland must be resolved as quickly as possible for the sake of the common and most important goal, which is to protect Europe from Russia’s aggressive expansionist policies,” Gitanas Nausėda said.
Separately, the Lithuanian president added that Poland’s involvement in helping Ukraine was outstanding and that it was time to find a solution to the problem. Otherwise, deepening the crisis could be considered irresponsible.
“In this case, we are not talking about the security of individual states, but about the security of the entire region and even the continent. As history shows, we can only counter the danger of external threats through joint efforts, supporting and helping each other,” Gitanas Nausėda added.
While the meeting between the three leaders was assumed to be general, the Presidential Office did not confirm the negotiations with Andrzej Duda.
Let’s remember, on September 21, we received the news that Ukraine and Poland had agreed to find a common solution on grain exports. The Ukrainian ministry said that at the meeting between Ukrainian Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Nikolai Solsky and Polish Minister of Agriculture Robert Telus, the developing situation between the countries and Kiev’s proposal for a solution to this situation were discussed.
