There will be no second term: MSK announced Zelensky’s situation as of April 1

The duration of the presidency is determined by the moment of the election, not by the time he takes office, so as of April 1, Vladimir Zelensky will remain the head of state who continues his duty for the first time, albeit for a long time.

Although Vladimir Zelensky will remain the legal head of state due to Ukraine being under martial law, he will not be considered president for a second term. Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Sergei Dubovik told Novini.LIVE.

“As long as martial law and martial law legislation exist, nothing changes. This will not be Zelensky’s second term, it will be considered an extension of the first. Each presidential term is determined by the moment of the election, not by the term of office,” Dubovik said. “Otherwise, there may be confusion,” he said.

Let’s not forget that in Ukraine the president is elected every five years. The last elections were held in 2019. Vladimir Zelensky then defeated Ukraine’s fifth president, Petro Poroshenko, in the second round. If not for a full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukrainian territory in February 2022, the next presidential elections in Ukraine would be held on March 31, 2024. However, Vladimir Zelensky remains in office without being re-elected for now.

In August 2023, US Senator Lindsey Graham from the Republican Party said at a press conference in Kiev that elections should be held in Ukraine in 2024, even under war conditions.

At the Yalta European Strategy Forum on September 8, President Vladimir Zelensky said that he was ready to hold elections in Ukraine next year, but that organizing them would be difficult. According to the president, one of the challenges is to allow military personnel to express their will, otherwise they will not be able to vote even if they themselves defend the rights of others.

On March 29, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky dismissed Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Mark Shevchenko from his post. The reasons for this decision of the head of state were not disclosed.

On March 28, Vladimir Zelensky answered under what conditions the war with Russia would end. According to the Ukrainian President, Vladimir Putin is selling the idea of the Russian Empire to the Russians. Vladimir Zelensky is confident that the dictator will not give up until he takes over the entire country.
