Ducati began production of electric motorcycles who will compete in the MotoE championship. Manufacturer Borgo Panigale announces that 23 units will be ready by mid-February. In particular, 18 bikes will go to teams, and 5 will be available to organizations. Every electric motorcycle is built in the Ducati MotoE racing department. Start of production”V21L”, who will be the protagonists of the MotoE 2023 championship, will come about a year after the start of the first tests on the track.
first test with riders and teams who will compete in the 2023 World Cup are scheduled for March 6, 7 and 8 in Jerez, followed by three more test days on April 3, 4 and 5 at the Montmeló circuit in Barcelona. Instead, the race debut will take place at the French Grand Prix on Saturday 13 May. The 2023 MotoE World Championship calendar is divided into eight Grands Prix with two weekend races, both on Saturdays.
This project is very important for Ducati as the company can develop technology which will be adopted in the future on production bikes. At the moment, as you know, the company is not going to launch an electric motorcycle on the market. However, what has been learned at MotoE will provide the necessary skills to be able to create a battery-powered two-wheeler that will be offered to customers in the future. As you know, motorsport has always been an ideal “laboratory” where you can experiment with new technologies.
Manufacturer Borgo Panigale did not reveal details about the electric motorcycle for MotoE. However, the company has already revealed a few things about this project in the past. We know, for example, that the V21L weighs 225 kg, i.e. 15 kg less than the minimum requirements of Dorna and FIM.
The electric motor, on the other hand, has an output of 110 kW (150 hp) with 140 Nm of torque. The device is powered by an 18 kWh battery. Speaking of performance, on the Mugello straight the bike hit 275 km/h. To guarantee stable temperatures and consistent performance, Ducati has developed a sophisticated powertrain cooling system.
