Mexican fighter Brandon Moreno regained the UFC Flyweight Championship by defeating Deiveson Figureido by TKO. However, after the victory and an interview in the octagon, the fighter had to retire with a heavy escort to the noise and attacks of the public present at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In a video posted by the UFC’s official Twitter account, the Brazilian fans were shown to be frustrated by the result and started booing and throwing objects at Moreno. Brandon had to be escorted out of the octagon and into the changing room tunnel by several security personnel who carried him almost loaded as objects and glasses of beer fell.
In the final part of the audiovisual, the Aztec boxer is seen exploding with joy and hugging part of his staff. “Gentlemen, long live Mexico, children of your fucking mother. Long live Mexico, dogs,” he can be heard saying.
In an interview in the octagon, Moreno said that he understands people, but stressed that this achievement was difficult for him. “People need to understand that I’m just trying to get food for my family, that’s all.”
At the end of the performance, the wrestler sent a message to the fans in Portuguese and apologized. “Apologies to the arena. I am Mexican. Long live Mexico, dogs! Long live Mexico! Go!” ended under the incessant booing of those present.
Deiveson Figueireido couldn’t get out in the fourth round as punches from the Guadalajara native took a toll on him and a right hand finished him off in the third round. The Brazilian’s eye was completely closed, and after being examined by a doctor, he determined that he could not continue. The referee decided to award a technical knockout.
