President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe criticized the practice of storing doping samples of athletes for many years. According to her, based on this logic, Olympic medals can also be awarded posthumously.
The World Anti-Doping Code stipulates that some athletes’ doping samples may be sent to long-term storage for up to 10 years. This is necessary to enable re-analysis.
“I believe that there is a lot that needs to be reviewed. Firstly, this doping list, it is expanding every year. And when I hear that there is a certain drug that protects you from asthma, and WADA checked it and reported that there is no help in sports performance, I have a question – why is it on this list then? And there are a lot of the same drugs”,” RIA Novosti quotes Vyalbe.
The FLGR President added that it is a mystery to her why doping samples are stored for 8-10 years, and, following this logic, Olympic Games medals can be awarded posthumously. According to her, WADA should be ahead of the pharmacists who develop doping, and check everything at the Olympic Games and World Championships.
Let it be a maximum of two or three months, but why wait 10 years, Vyalbe asked herself.
Earlier, Vyalbe said that foreign athletes and specialists follow ski competitions in Russia and are jealous. In her opinion, Russian competitions can be compared with international ones; they are held to the highest standards.
