News that Brisbane has refused to host the 2032 Summer Olympics is fake, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said following the second day of the organization’s executive committee meeting in Lausanne.

The 9News portal previously reported that the government of the Australian state of Queensland is considering the possibility of refusing to host the Olympics due to the high costs of organizing the competition and the dissatisfaction of Brisbane residents.

“The news about the alleged cancellation of the Games is just speculation. Everyone involved has made it very clear that none of the conversations or plans they have had have mentioned this. Obviously, this is some kind of fake news.”said Bach.

He clarified that with regard to the Games in Brisbane, all that was said was that by this time the city would not build a new stadium.

Let us recall that in February 2021, the IOC named Brisbane as the city in which it would be preferable to host the summer Olympics. In July of the same year, the Australian city was chosen as the capital of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
