James Webb manages to capture what a collision of two galaxies looks like millions of light-years away

The Chariot Galaxy, a rare ring galaxy once shrouded in dust and mystery, has been discovered using the imaging capabilities of the James Webb Space Telescope.

The James Webb lens was not only able to give a general image of the galaxy, but also provided information about the black hole that is located at the center of said galaxy.something that hasn’t happened so far.

“Webb’s high-precision instruments have revealed the behavior of a black hole at its galactic center. These new details provide new insights into a galaxy in the midst of a slow transformation.”

The European Space Agency explains that the Chariot Galaxy is approximately 500 million light-years from Earth. and it is used by scientists to be able to learn more about the process of star formation and the consequences that a collision between galaxies can cause.

The name of the galaxy, according to experts, is due to the fact that its shape resembles two concentric rings.. The researchers note that the inner ring is mostly made up of young large stars, while the outer ring is mostly made up of gases that are also expected to become stars in the future.

“While Webb gives us a snapshot of the current state of Cartwheel, it also gives us a glimpse of what happened to this galaxy in the past and how it will evolve in the future,” the scientists added.
