Audi activesphere, here’s a new electric concept for adventure lovers January 26, 2023 0

Audi Activesphere – new electric concept car with which the 4-ring house tells its vision of the premium mobility of the future. This is the latest member of a family of concepts that the German manufacturer has been presenting since 2021. The House of the 4 Rings is described as an extremely versatile crossover coupe,”the perfect companion for daring outdoor adventures“.

A car that can also be converted in a few seconds into a kind of pickup truck for carrying small items, sports equipment or bicycles. In addition, it is equipped with quattro electric all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension, allowing you to overcome any trails.

There is also no shortage of Level 4 autonomous driving features, allowing you to travel on the road with ultimate relaxation. When activated, the steering wheel disappears and the driver can do other things in the car. Audi activesphere is also introducing a system called Audi Dimension capable of merging the physical and virtual worlds to display digital content integrated into passengers’ field of vision in real time.

The concept car was developed at Audi Design Studio in Malibu and will be presented to the public at a global preview on February 5 in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

DESIGN AND INTERIORS

The Audi activesphere concept is based on new PPE platform developed by the German brand in collaboration with Porsche. A platform that we will find in several new future electric house models of 4 rings. This car measure Length 4.98 m, width 2.07 m, height 1.60 m, wheelbase 2.97 m. This model can count on 22-inch wheels with 285/55 tires, also designed for off-road use. In particular, the circles have movable segments.

When driving off-road, they open to improve ventilation of the brake system. However, they are closed on the road to improve the car’s aerodynamics. A large interior and a steeply sloping roof arc give the car sporty proportions. On the other hand, the wide wheel arches emphasize the presence of electric all-wheel drive and off-road potential of the vehicle.

Ground clearance can be increased or decreased by 40 mm, which allows you to overcome any route. The Audi activesphere has an angle of attack of 18.9 degrees and a departure angle of 28.1 degrees. Audi explains that the variable ride height is a reference to the A6 allroad quattro range, which has featured adaptive air suspension and an off-road look since the first generation.

On the front of the concept we find Audi singleframe clear glass. This choice allows passengers to see in front of the car directly from the passenger compartment. The daytime running lights and rear lights use ultra-thin micro-LEDs. The concept is also equipped with a large panoramic glass roof, allowing for more interior space.

The back is very unique in that it can “open up” making it accessible to people. small cargo platform where possible also holds up to 2 e-bikes.

In fact, if the driver so desires, the rear window slides lengthwise to cover the glass roof, and the bottom of the tailgate folds down like a pickup truck to reveal a cargo area known as “active rear”. In addition, as with many concept vehicles, the new Audi ActiveSphere also features rear doors open against the wind. A retractable ski rack is built into the center of the roof structure, which can be pulled out if needed.

As with other concepts, Audi has paid great attention to the interior, which can accommodate up to 4 passengers. The cab features a minimalist design with lava red seat surfaces and door panels, contrasting with the black tint of other cab elements. The seats consist of three enveloping shells, one for each structural element: cushion, side panels and backrest.

As mentioned at the beginning, the interior is customized according to the driving mode used. When you turn on autonomous driving, the steering wheel and pedals disappear. The center console has a large compartment where you can store various items. The contactless MMI satellite located along the door panels can be controlled using gesture commands or, in active autonomous driving, thanks to a combination of eye detection and gesture input. The console is partially duplicated on the roof, where four augmented reality viewers are placed.

In fact, one of the most interesting aspects of the concept is the accessibility of the technology.”Audi size”.The heart of the system, which combines the physical world and the virtual world give life mixed realityare dedicated augmented reality viewers that overlay 3D digital content onto the physical world.

In particular, the system brings displays and touch surfaces invisible to the naked eye into the driver’s field of vision. How it works? The user can view virtual content, and focusing on it signals his interest in the system. At this point, the system will display more detailed information.

Thus, the information content becomes elements capable of responding to gesture commands. The driver’s hand, for example, can follow the line of sight to scroll through the vehicle’s functions, while the user interface (i.e., the virtual display created by the visor) responds to gestures like a normal screen. In addition, virtual controls, such as digital satellites in the doors, are adaptively positioned in space to facilitate interaction with the driver.

Thanks to the ability to control the car through this system, designers have received greater stylistic freedom in creating the interior, since the design was no longer subject to the presence of on-board buttons and instruments. The potential of the Audi Dimension system goes beyond simply controlling vehicle functions. For example, Audi says that off-road mode can overlay 3D topography on the real landscape, displaying navigation and destination information.

Passengers can also take advantage of the Audi Dimension by logging into personalized content. In fact, they can prepare actions to be performed once at the destination, operate the climate control, view a selection of music tracks, or, again, project virtual displays onto the dashboard and console to access content on the Internet.

ENGINE AND RANGE

House of 4 Rings also provided some technical details about the concept car’s powertrain. Therefore, Audi activesphere can rely on two electric motors for one. total power 325 kW at 720 Nm of torque. Traction, as already mentioned, is integral. All this is powered by a powerful battery with a capacity of 100 kWh. range 600 km.

Thanks to the 800 V architecture, it is possible recharge at very high power (up to 270 kW) on direct current. Audi says it can go from 5 to 80% in less than 25 minutes. In 10 minutes, you can restore more than 300 km of autonomy.
