Ferrari and Enel X in the energy community of Fiorano and Maranello 02 May 2023 0

Ferrari and Enel X signed a new cooperation agreement that will lead to the creation photovoltaic system in the service of one new renewable energy community (Renewable Energy Community – REC) in the municipalities of Fiorano Modenese and Maranello. The two companies have worked together in the past. In fact, Enel X built a photovoltaic system on the rooftops of factories in Maranello.

Now cooperation is shifting to the energy communities.

PROJECT

According to the Prancing Horse, it will be “the first industrial energy community ever promoted and supported in Italy by a company for the benefit of its territory“. Therefore, Enel X will install a photovoltaic system approximately 1 MW by December 2023. This structure will be built on unused land owned by Maranello, which is located near the Fiorano track (10,000 m2). All energy produced will be fully provided to the local population.

The photovoltaic system must reach generate an average of about 1500 MWh per year for 20 years. It is estimated that this will reduce CO2 emissions by about 450 tons per year. In addition, the energy community will allow its members to save on energy bills. All public or private entities of Fiorano and Maranello will be able to become part of the new renewable energy community.

In this way, citizens, institutions, businesses and factories will be able to use the energy generated by the new plant. In addition, they will be able to play the role of a renewable energy producer by connecting additional photovoltaic systems, possibly installed on rooftops. Enel X will use single-axis trackers and double-sided panels (1818 panels of 550 W each) for the photovoltaic installation it will install. Benedict VignaCEO of Ferrari, commented on this project:

Sustainable development is a priority for us. Of course, we want to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, but we do not hide the ambition to inspire wider changes. The Ferrari energy community is a concrete testament to the possible synergy between the industry and the community in which it operates, and a model that can bring important benefits to the Italian energy system. With its scalability and reproducibility, it can speed up the decarbonization process while lowering the cost of energy for citizens and businesses.
