The Russians proudly switched from the PRC to equipment for the manufacture of “90s” chips.

The Mikron factory replaced American equipment with Chinese equipment and was “overflowing with orders.”

Kommersant writes that under US sanctions, the Russian Mikron factory, which produces “old” chips using the 90 nanometer process, was forced to replace Western equipment with analogues from China and Belarus. This was evident from the MP’s speech. Sergey Ranchin, Managing Director of Operations, at the Digital Industry forum of Industrial Russia.

Commenting on the plans to expand and increase production, Sergey Ranchin said, “In the face of constraints on the purchase of the best materials, practices and services, it is necessary to evolve by replacing one horse with another.”

Of course, there can be no talk of any modernization. While Western giants produce chips using the 3nm process, the Russians have to be content with technologies from the 90s of the last century. Even China is already producing 7nm processors, but it is in no hurry to share technologies with a “trusted partner”.

However, at Mikron they do not despair and cheerfully report about a “big increase in orders”, but it is not clear who needs so many old chips, which are already insufficient even for unpretentious tasks and technology.

The company says they want to increase the production of silicon wafers from 3,000 to 6,000 units by 2025 for 90-180 nm chip production. For this, of course, the factory needs an investment of 10 billion rubles. But finally in Russia it will be possible to produce chips for domestic SIM cards.

Previously Focus He mentioned that the EU will impose sanctions on manufacturers of microelectronics for the weapons of the Russian Federation.
