Passed all tests: THeMIS combat robot showed what it can do on the battlefield

The ground-based drone with the MIFIK intelligent function system completed all the combat missions assigned to it, even in the harsh environmental conditions created for it during the tests.

The combat robot THeMIS, created in Estonia, passed one of the most difficult tests and showed what it can do in a combat situation. This was reported in the Army Recognition publication.

Extensive tests for ground robots manufactured by Milrem Robotics were organized by the Estonian Military Academy and defense technology experts from Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. They took place on the training ground of the Military Academy.

THeMIS is an unmanned ground vehicle developed by the Estonian company Milrem Robotics. Designed to support troops, it serves as a transport platform, remote weapon station, IED detection and destruction unit.

“>THEMIS He showed his driving skills on dirt roads. In addition, the combat robot was forced to make its way through a narrow forest road, and then to overcome several fields. One was covered with dense tall grass, and the other lacked rich vegetation.

The ground plane gave good results even when moving through a dense forest. Experts highly appreciated THeMIS’s “skills” in route planning, point-to-point movement and obstacle avoidance.

Also, during the two-day tests, it was evaluated whether the drone robot was “ready” to interact with a human operator. Summing up all the results that the robot showed, experts noted the mature autonomous system of the robot, which allows it to perform combat missions even in harsh environmental conditions. The developers themselves say that this is possible thanks to the MIFIK set of smart functions built into the “brain” of the ground-based drone.

Recall that in early September 2022 it was learned that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will use THEMIS robots to transport soldiers and weapons. It is equipped with a low-noise diesel-electric engine and a tracked platform capable of carrying loads of up to 750 kg.

THeMIS combat robots, previously produced by Milrem, took part in military exercises in Estonia. Drones have taken on the role of scouts, shooters and even doctors.
