The uniqueness of the UAV lies in its artificial intelligence system, which allows it to find targets autonomously. Soon the creators promise to install a new engine so that it can fly even to Moscow.
Ukraine has developed and started producing new attack drones based on Russian Lancet drone technology. Modern unmanned aerial vehicles are discussed in the video published by aviation expert Xavier Titelman on YouTube.
According to the author of the video, during his recent trip to Ukraine, he visited the center where an innovative unmanned aerial vehicle was developed, capable of effectively hitting and destroying various armored vehicles. The airplane-style drone is medium-sized and built using off-the-shelf components available at hardware stores. The UAV has a conventional design with a long fuselage with wings on top and a V-shaped tail.
What makes this drone unique is its artificial intelligence system that allows it to identify potential targets based on their color scheme. Operators can select targets from the control screens, and thus, they can autonomously go and attack the target even if they lose contact with the control panel. This function guarantees 100% success in destroying targets, including moving ones.
The drone is designed for full autonomy. The fact that its flight plan is pre-programmed allows it to function as an autonomous missile and provides a significant strategic advantage in modern warfare scenarios. In the front part there is a cumulative ammunition that, according to the developers, can destroy modern tanks.
The expert notes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have approved a version of the drone with an electric motor, and large-scale production has already begun. In addition to the standard model, developers are working to create a long-range version of the drone powered by a thermal engine. This will allow the drone to travel several hundred kilometers, which in the future will allow it to reach Moscow from the central part of Ukraine. This version is currently under development and must operate at extreme altitudes, both very high and very low.
Technical characteristics of the “Ukrainian Lancet”:
- weight – 1.5 kg without carrying capacity;
- flight range – from 20 to 50 km;
- speed – from 20 to 50 km;
- engine – electric motor in the rear of the fuselage;
- equipment – optical system for navigation;
- payload – GPS jammer systems, day and night vision cameras, sensor
Global Navigation Satellite System
“>GNSS;
- launch – using a launch pad (similar to the launch of the Orlan-10 UAV);
- price – from 5 to 12 thousand euros.
Let’s remember that a few days ago we wrote that the military was testing new ammunition for FPV drones. They tested various types of munitions that helicopters could carry and drop: high-explosive fragmentation rounds, grenades, and VOGs. These munitions are designed to destroy enemy targets such as infantry and vehicles.
In addition, recently the Armed Forces of Ukraine talked about the achievements of Backfire drones during the year of operation. Using an unmanned complex, soldiers of the Angry Birds detachment managed to hit artillery systems, electronic warfare equipment, light armored vehicles, multiple launch rocket systems, observation and personnel recruitment points, trucks, ammunition depots, light and unarmored vehicles.
