The royal couple almost repeated the tragic fate of Princess Diana, who fled from the paparazzi in New York.
When the Dukes couldn’t pay for the hotel, a car chase ensued that followed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Page Six writes about it.
According to an insider source, the royal couple allegedly pressured the late Princess Diana’s favorite hotel, the Carlyle, to provide a discounted room for their New York visit that day.
According to law enforcement sources, the establishment denied this and therefore the couple stayed at a friend’s house on the Upper East Side.
But when the paparazzi began to follow them, it was a “non-stop chase that lasted for over two hours” because King III. Charles’ son and wife did not want to “take” the photographers to their friend’s house and explain where they were staying.
“They had to check into a hotel for everyone’s safety. Instead, they couldn’t pay and asked for free housing,” said a New York law enforcement source.
“If they’d paid and taken the hotel, this so-called ‘dangerous’ paparazzi chase around town would never have happened. They’d be taken back to Carlyle, photographed on the way in, and that would have been the end of it all.”
Note that the cost per night for a room at Princess Diana’s favorite hotel in New York ranges from $1,240 to $6,000.
Recall that the taxi driver driving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told his version of the incident.
