At the end of last year, the German armed forces were embarrassed during the exercises due to the failed Puma infantry fighting vehicles, writes Bild.
18 BMPs were involved in the maneuvers, and all of them failed, which is why they had to be replaced by older Marders. The awkwardness of the situation, among other things, was that Puma managed to put into service with NATO allies.
The army leadership tried to shift the responsibility for the incident to the manufacturers, but it turned out that the problem was in the actions of the military.
So, in October, the BMP was not sent for maintenance and left in service. In addition, inexperienced mechanics were sent on maneuvers, while specialist repairmen familiar with Puma were resting due to overtime. As a result, cars with failed heaters were recognized as faulty, although to solve this problem it was just necessary to add liquids.
As a result, the Bundeswehr was criticized by parliamentarians. For example, MP Joe Weingarten accused the military of incompetence. In addition, there was a threat of termination of the contract for new BMPs, as the deputies demand that the army solve problems before spending money.
