The brothers could not ignore the award given in memory of their mother.
On 1 July, the mother of Prince William and Harry and now King Henry III. Prince Charles’ first wife Diana, Princess of Wales, would celebrate her 62nd birthday. Hello, on this occasion their son attended the virtual Diana Award.
When the brothers last met in public at their father’s coronation, they practically did not communicate with each other, and Harry flew to the USA even before the celebrations were over.
This time, William and Harry didn’t intersect given the format of the event, but they couldn’t ignore it. Both have long supported the Diana Award, established in 1999 in memory of the late Princess of Wales and her belief that young people can change the world.
In his opening speech at the start of the awards ceremony, the Prince of Wales said he was “proud” to continue to believe in his late mother.
“Today, we recognize the power of all young people to challenge the status quo, stand up against injustice and inspire meaningful change. A hearty congratulations to all the recipients of the award. Your achievements are a testament to your passion and drive for positive change. You are a source of hope and inspiration that illuminates the path of others, and all who follow these stories.” they remind us why organizations like the Diana Award are so important, speaking via video link from Kensington Palace, “it’s a belief my mother shared and I’m proud to continue to believe in it.”
Harry wasn’t left out either.
“When we got together, I remembered my mother’s deep belief in the transformative power of youth. She recognized their unique ability to challenge the status quo and foster a more inclusive and compassionate society. Her legacy continues to inspire and exemplify how to navigate the complexities of our world today. “Many of the challenges we face disproportionately affect young people. Barriers such as climate change, mental health or systemic injustice may sometimes seem insurmountable. But what gives me hope is the collective strength. What we have when we work together – the power is in the diversity of voices and perspectives that embrace it.”
