If King Charles dies: who will be the heir and what will happen to Queen Camilla

Sudden rumors that the King of Great Britain has died have people wondering what will happen if the news turns out to be true. And how the line of succession has changed.

King III, who had cancer. Charles is no longer young. He is 75 years old. Although he comes from a long-lived family (his father and mother died at the ages of 99 and 96, respectively), one wonders what would happen if he died. The sudden rumors that this had already happened added fuel to the fire. Amid the crisis at Buckingham Palace, fans of the royal family are worried. Focus I figured out what would happen if Operation Menai Bridge, a plan in the event of the monarch’s death, was put into effect.

A wave of rumors about the death of Charles III, who became king only in the autumn of 2022 after the death of his mother Elizabeth II, appeared on social networks in the afternoon of March 18. Neither Buckingham Palace nor the British media disseminated such information. Later, the British Embassy in Ukraine, King George III. He denied all the rumors, stating that the report about Charles’ death was fake.

Fortunately, there will be no intrigue with the heir. The throne will be occupied by his eldest son, William, who holds the title Prince of Wales traditionally reserved for heirs to the English throne.

King Charles’ heirs

Prince William, King George III. He is the eldest son of Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales. On June 21, 1982, St. He was born at St. Mary’s Hospital and was the first heir to the throne not born in the royal court.

Queen Elizabeth II When Charles became king after Elizabeth’s death on 8 September 2022, William assumed the title Prince of Wales and also holds the titles Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Cornwall.

The current Prince of Wales will most likely ascend to the throne under the name William V. Great Britain’s previous king of the same name, William IV, reigned 1830-1837. William’s wife, Catherine Middleton, will become queen consort. “Consort” simply means that she is the ruler’s wife. Queen Elizabeth II Unlike the queen, who is Elizabeth, the queen consort has no constitutional authority and is not the head of state. His duty is to support the king in the best possible way in the discharge of all crown-related duties.

Queen Consort is mostly used on paper these days. In everyday life, Kate will be referred to simply as Queen Catherine, or in less formal situations as Queen Kate.

And their three children will rise in succession. Heir to the throne will be Prince George, born in 2013, followed by his sisters Princess Charlotte (2015) and Prince Louis (2018).

William’s brother Prince Harry, who also holds the titles Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel, will be fourth in the line of succession, followed by his children Archie and Lilibet Diana.

Interestingly, however, the line of succession also includes Charles’ brother and his daughters, the infamous Prince Andrew: Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and their children.

Then – Prince Edward, the youngest child of the late Queen Elizabeth, Duke of Edinburgh. And their children: Lord James and Lady Louise.

After Edward – Princess Royal Anne and her children: Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall and their children, of whom there are only five.

And only then do the grandchildren of the late queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, enter the line of succession: David Armstrong-Jones and Lady Sarah Chatto and their children.

The succession list includes cousins of the late Elizabeth II. And it’s just a straight line, but Queen Victoria also has grandchildren.

Royal family titles

With titles, things are a little more complicated. As heir to the throne, Prince George will become the Duke of Cornwall in England and the Duke of Roxburgh in Scotland. His father will decide whether to make him Prince of Wales immediately or wait. So King Charles bestowed the title of Prince of Wales on William (and Kate, Princess of Wales) in his first speech after his mother’s death in September 2022.

Queen Camilla would later become the “queen dowager” because she would be the widow of the monarch. Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth’s mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, could also have carried this title, but she preferred to be called the Queen Mother.

The decision regarding the title ultimately lies in William’s hands, as does the fate of many other aspects of Camilla’s life. Even if Charles dies before her, she will likely continue to perform royal duties such as charity events.

Prince Andrew will most likely retain the title of Prince of York, while his brother will retain the title of Duke of Edinburgh. The title Princess Royal Mother will also not change, especially since it is an honorary title and the princess is only the seventh person to hold this title.

Princess Charlotte may receive this title in the future.

In short, even if King Charles died suddenly, it would undoubtedly be a sad event for his family. However, a chain of events will begin in which there will be no surprises. After all, we’re in the 21st century now, which means there’s no foreseeable war for the throne.

Let’s remember that Focus has previously written about Operation Menai Bridge, a plan in the event of the death of King Charles.

And also about how social networks reacted with memes and jokes to rumors about the death of the British monarch.
