Peacekeepers from Russia are doing everything to ensure order and tranquility in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced to journalists by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

This is how Peskov responded to the opinion of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who believes that Russia is allegedly not fulfilling its obligations on Nagorno-Karabakh, including those related to control over the Lachin corridor. At the same time, Pashinyan stated this, despite the efforts of the Russian side to unblock the corridor.

In response, the press secretary of the Russian leader noted that the Russian peacekeepers “work and act exclusively in accordance with the spirit and letter” of those documents signed between Yerevan, Baku and Moscow.

Dmitry Peskov added that the Russian Federation and Armenia will continue to discuss this issue.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense stated that on December 12, the Azerbaijani side blocked the Stepanakert-Goris road, the only road linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia. The command of the peacekeepers of the Russian Federation is negotiating with representatives of Baku on the resumption of the unhindered movement of civilian transport along the Lachin corridor. The US State Department also called for unblocking its Azerbaijani side.

In Azerbaijan, they call what is happening “a protest action of civil activists and environmentalists” allegedly against the “illegal activities of Yerevan.” According to Nikol Pashinyan, Baku’s actions to block the corridor are “illegal and grossly violate its international obligations,” in particular the provisions of the statement of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan dated November 9, 2020.
