It took six months: Russia wants to restart the operation of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline

In Russia, they believe that gas pipeline work has been stopped for political reasons before, but due to gas shortages in Europe, the Russian Federation is ready to share fuel.

Russia is ready to restart gas supplies to the European Union via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline. This was reported by the Russian media.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, the operation of the gas pipeline was stopped “for political reasons”. But now, according to a Russian official, there is a gas shortage in Europe and Russia “has every opportunity to maintain stocks.”

“It is clear that a large-scale operation has been launched against us, which resulted in sabotage against Nord Stream,” said Alexander Novak.

At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation believes that the demand for Russian gas in Europe is increasing.

Today, we can safely say that there is a demand for natural gas. That’s why we continue to see Europe as a potential market for our products.”

Closure of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline

Gas supply via Poland through the country-owned section of the Yamal-Europe pipeline was terminated in May 2022. Russia then announced that it had stopped pumping “blue fuel” due to sanctions against a number of foreign companies, including EuRoPol GAZ, which owns the Polish division of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.

In addition, Gazprom complained that Poland had “repeatedly violated its rights” by a Russian company that was formerly a shareholder of EuRoPol GAZ, and on April 26 sanctions blocked Gazprom’s ability to manage shares, other securities, and receive dividends.

Earlier, it was learned that the European Union countries have agreed to set a ceiling on gas prices of 180 euros / megawatt-hour, which is about 2,000 euros per 1,000 cubic meters of gas. The restriction will come into effect on February 15, 2023.

Focus also wrote that amid a sharp rise in energy prices due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Europe’s losses amounted to nearly $1 trillion.
