President Biden briefly mentioned immigration in his address to Congress.

The president Joe Biden devoted a mention of about one minute in his speech union state from Tuesday to immigration And border security.

“Now we have a record number of officers working to secure the border: in the last few months alone, we have arrested 8,000 smugglers and seized more than 23,000 pounds of fentanyl. Since we launched our new border plan last month, illegal migration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela has decreased by 97%,” Biden said.

Biden told Congress that if he did not approve his immigration reform, he would at least provide a path to citizenship for the so-called “dreamers” — undocumented youth who came to the United States as children and whose immigration status is protected by the Deferral Act. Program of Action for New Arrivals (DACA), Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Immigrants, Agricultural and Essential Workers.

“If you do not approve of my comprehensive immigration reform, then at least approve of my plan to provide equipment and officers to guard the border. And a path to citizenship for dreamers, those with temporary status, farm workers and essential workers,” Biden said.

“Let’s also unite on the issue of immigration and make this issue bipartisan, as it was before,” Biden said. “The problems of the American border will not be resolved until Congress takes action.”

Some Republicans were unhappy that the president did not devote more to border issues than his second State of the Union address. Some lawmakers interrupted the president by chanting “protect the border” during other parts of Biden’s speech.
