The Japanese government said that in the three years since 2019, three unidentified flying objects were seen over the country’s territory. they are “strongly suspected” of being Chinese spy balloons.

This is the first time Japan has made such a claim since the United States shot down a similar Chinese spy balloon earlier this month after it intruded into US airspace, a Defense Department official said.

In this context Japan’s Ministry of Defense today proposed revising its rules to allow the use of weapons to shoot down unidentified aircraft that enter its airspace. after confirming that several supposedly Chinese spy balloons have flown over the country in recent years.

The Japanese ministry launched the initiative at a meeting this Wednesday with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (PLD).

Tokyo demanded that Beijing confirm the facts and prevent their repetitionthe ministry said. The government also told China that Japan would never allow its territorial skies to be violated.

According to the ministry, three flying objects were detected in southwestern Japan’s Kagoshima prefecture in November 2019 and in the northeastern prefectures of Miyagi and Aomori in June 2020 and September 2021, respectively.
