Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow sincerely appreciates the efforts of the Chinese colleagues aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine peacefully.
“We share Beijing’s views. We are committed to the principles of observing the UN Charter, the norms of international law, including humanitarian law, the indivisibility of security, according to which the security of one country should not be strengthened at the expense of the security of another, which is also applicable to the security of certain groups of countries. Like our Chinese colleagues , we consider any restrictive measures unauthorized by the UN Security Council to be illegitimate.This is a crude instrument of unfair competition and economic warfare“, – said Zakharova, commenting on the document “China’s Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukrainian Crisis” published by Beijing.
She noted that at the end of 2011, the Russian Federation proposed to conclude between Moscow and Washington a Treaty on security guarantees, as well as an Agreement on measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation.
“We regret that our constructive proposals were rejected by Western countries”– said Zakharova.
According to her, Moscow is open to reaching a settlement of the crisis in Ukraine through diplomacy.
Zakharova stressed that this implies the cessation of arms supplies to Ukraine, the end of hostilities, the return of the Kyiv regime to a neutral non-bloc status, and the recognition of new territorial realities.
“Citizens of Ukraine, including the Russian-speaking population and representatives of national minorities, must be guaranteed all inalienable rights, including the right to speak and study in their native language“, – said Zakharova.
According to her, progress along this path will lead to sustainable peace.
She noted that the main obstacle to achieving peace through diplomacy today is the decree adopted by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on the “impossibility” of negotiations with the President of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Zakharova recalled that it was Ukraine that stopped the peace talks in April 2022.
