Embedded project: Russia refuses to repair damaged Nord Stream, media

According to journalists, the Russian Federation will retain the pipelines, but there are no plans for operations in the near future. They will be sealed.

Russia has no plans to repair the Nord Stream gas pipelines. Instead, they plan on mothballs and sealing. Reuters writes about it, citing its sources.

The publication writes that the Russian Gazprom, which built 4 lines of Nord Stream, said that it is technically possible to repair the damaged pipelines, but Moscow does not see the possibility of improving relations with the West, and therefore does not plan to operate it. pipelines.

Moreover, as one of the sources told reporters, Russia has already called the project “buried.” Other sources noted that while there are no repairs plans, Nord Stream will be held in case of a possible reopening in the future.

Journalists suggested sealing the pipelines, as well as covering them with a special coating to prevent corrosion from seawater.

The publication writes that, according to one of the experts interviewed, Europe may consider recommissioning Nord Stream if natural gas delivered by sea from the US becomes more expensive.

As a representative of the German company E.ON, one of the shareholders of Nord Streams, said, no decision has yet been taken on the recommissioning of the pipelines. Other shareholders did not answer questions from journalists.

Recall that on September 26, 2022, an emergency occurred at the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline of Russia – a sharp increase in pressure was noted at the plant. Following this, it was learned that the pressure on both lines of another facility – Nord Stream – dropped.

Later, German experts said that if too much seawater gets inside the pipes, it will cause the appearance of corrosion. In this case, gas pipelines can no longer be used.

The UK’s Ministry of Defense has said that Russia itself can blow up Nord Stream using an underwater drone. According to a source in the military department, the Russians may have delivered the explosives to the gas pipelines a few months ago to detonate at the right time.

NATO said the accident on the Nord Stream pipeline was caused by deliberate sabotage. Stoltenberg promised that an attack on Allied infrastructure would be met with a strong response.

Russian President Vladimir Putin accused foreign energy companies of undermining Nord Stream. Putin said the accident at the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was “an act of international terrorism”. Therefore, Nord Stream’s competitors want to force Europeans to buy energy sources at inflated prices.
