The 393rd tank battalion of the Bundeswehr, which is part of the German units of the NATO high-readiness task force, records frequent breakdowns of its Leopard 2A7 tanks. This is reported ZDF.

According to the TV channel, out of 40 combat units only 20 are operational. In January, the figure was even lower – only 17 vehicles. At the same time, Germany pledged to provide the Alliance with 30 tanks by the end of the year.

“Internal documents of the Bundeswehr prove tangible problems with the operational readiness of the armored forces”– sum up the German journalists.

It is assumed that in the event of an attack on NATO, the forces of the high-readiness task force will enter the battle first. Responsibility for the state of these troops of the country annually takes on different countries. In 2023 it will be Germany’s turn. The core of the association should be the only 393rd tank battalion fully equipped with modern Leopard 2A7.

Severe depletion of German ammunition stocks was also previously reported.

Recall that on March 3, it became known about Germany’s weapons request: the Germans turned to Switzerland about buying 96 Leopard 2 tanks to replenish their own stocks and promising not to transfer the vehicles to Kyiv.

It should be noted that Western countries, led by the United States, continue to pump weapons to Ukraine, supplying all of its new types: infantry fighting vehicles, armored vehicles, tanks, missile systems, artillery systems, and MLRS. This includes the Leopard 2.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly emphasized that any shipments of weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for the Russian Aerospace Forces. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the supply of weapons would not stop, but would prolong the conflict in Ukraine, and called the position of Western countries “harmful” and “counterproductive.”
