“It’s a myth”: US says Americans aren’t fed up with Ukraine, but such a risk remains

Alex Vindman, former Director of European Affairs at the US Security Council, says 70% of the country’s residents are still ready to help Ukrainians. He believes the situation could change in six months or a year.

Alex Vindman, former Director of European Affairs at the US National Security Council, believes his country has not experienced the so-called “weariness of helping Ukraine.” He calls such claims myths. The American politician and retired lieutenant colonel spoke about this in an interview with the RBC Ukraine agency on March 8.

“Until now, ‘Ukrainian fatigue’ has become a myth,” he said.

According to him, support for Ukraine has fallen by 5% recently. According to Vindman, at least 70% of Americans believe that Washington should help the Ukrainian people in their fight against Russian aggression.

“70% of the population agree that more needs to be done for Ukraine. This is quite surprising in a very polarized society in the USA,” the expert said.

At the same time, Vindman confirms that the situation may change in the next six months or a year.

“We need to be vigilant about this. [усталости]And we need to keep talking to the American people why this war is important for Ukraine, for democracy, but first and foremost for America.”

According to Vindman, US officials should make it public that the resources diverted to Ukraine are actually very limited. According to him, $30-40 billion is “a drop in the ocean of defense finance”. At the same time, he emphasizes that the return on investment is extremely high.

“It’s 4-5% of the defense budget – and Russia has effectively destroyed its conventional military potential. And it won’t pose a conventional military threat for a decade or more,” Vindman summed up.

Recall, on March 8, Fox News wrote that Republican Party representatives in the United States accused Alex Vindman of trying to make money from the war in Ukraine. According to journalists of the publication, Vindman allegedly offered lucrative defense contracts to Kiev through his private company.
