Serbian Economy Minister Rade Basta’s appeal reflects his personal opinion, Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said. His words are quoted by the Socialist Party (SPS) headed by him.

Earlier, Basta, who joined the government last fall as part of the Union of Right Forces, spoke in favor of imposing anti-Russian sanctions because of the enormous pressure that the West is exerting on President Alexander Vučić.

Dacic said that the party supports the course of the President of Serbia, which implies the refusal to impose anti-Russian sanctions.

“Basta, who is a member of United Serbia (JS), our coalition partner, among other things, indicated that he was in favor of imposing sanctions against Russia. JS leader Dragan Markovic Palma also said that Basta’s position is not the position of United Serbia”Dacic added.

He also recalled the demands of the “Movement of Socialists” to dismiss Basta.

Belgrade has repeatedly stressed that Serbia does not plan to impose sanctions against Russia: January 11, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that Serbia’s position on sanctions would remain unchanged.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic noted that the republic would impose anti-Russian sanctions only if it faced something more than just pressure.

Zakharova has already noted that the West is literally “twisting the arms” of Serbia in order to force it to join the economic war against Russia.

In early March, State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik said that Western countries are trying to bring Serbia to its knees in order to deprive Russia of an ally.
