Scholarship Prep, a place where wellbeing is a priority

There is a school in Los Angeles where every morning, before class starts, each student confesses to their teacher or principal how they feel that day, whether they have any problems or if they feel ready to start classes. .

“We believe that if a student is doing well, they are doing well,” explains South Bay Charter School Rachel Foy Scholarship Principal, “so we prioritize their social-emotional well-being before starting the day in class.”

If for any reason a student has a concern but would like to express it more privately, at any time of the day they can send a message to their teacher or Principal Foy to find the sympathy they need.

“In this way, we are building a bridge across distance that connects students with their teachers,” the director explained.

This is done by school staff every school morning with 405 students from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade.

In the classroom, the program primarily focuses on three areas: academics, athletics, and writing. But what makes Scholarship Prep unique is that its courses motivate students every day to focus on the college they want to attend in a few years time.

“Our classes are called, for example, UCLA or USC,” Principal Foy said. And this is not just the case when a child is asked which university you would like to study at when you go to school, and from now on he takes up work in this direction.

“If a student tells us that they want to study in Los Angeles, California, then from that moment on, they must complete work and homework related to Los Angeles, California,” the director explained.

Result? An example can be decisive. A recent Scholarship Prep student received a full scholarship to Santa Margarita Catholic High School, where the annual tuition is around $60,000 per year. The former student is now also aiming for a scholarship when he goes to college.

Scholarship Prep follows a charter system, but in this case, students do not have to live within the approximate campus radius, but can come from anywhere in Los Angeles County, and it has an even larger campus in Los Angeles County. Orange, currently has 600 students.

“At Scholarship, we believe that equality is important and partnership is strength,” so the school treats students and their families with respect, dignity, and even love.
