Austria has chosen military neutrality, but supports Ukraine in the war started by Russia. The parliament has explained what to expect Vladimir Putin if he decides to cross the Austrian border.
Austria is a militarily neutral country and will be guided by international and criminal law regarding the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was expressed in an interview for Tagesspiegel by conservative party representative Karoline Edtstadler.
“If he sets foot on Austrian soil, he should be arrested,” the lawyer said.
Edtstadler stressed that Austria was militarily neutral, but not politically.
“We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, support them humanely and economically, but not in the supply of weapons. And vice versa, we do not hinder the decision to pay support from the EU,” the deputy said.
According to him, the deployment of foreign military bases in Austria will not be allowed, and the state will not be able to enter into any military alliance. Edtstadler also assured that the Austrians could support Ukraine.
“For us, neutrality was a path to freedom and, of course, to identity building. Vienna, in particular, established itself as a place for peace negotiations and a center for international organisations,” said Edtstadler.
Recall that on April 11, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijarto said that Europe “escaped the winter”, but the coming winter will be difficult. Siyarto called this a physics problem.
Earlier, the statement made by French President Emmanuel Macron on April 10 was clear. According to him, Europe should not comply with the policies of the USA or China.
