The war in Ukraine was worth the wait: the world underestimated Russia and its imperial plans, – experts

According to analysts, it was worth waiting for the start of a new war after Russia’s actions in Georgia and Syria. Now Ukraine is at the epicenter of negotiations on the future of Europe.

The world underestimated Russia and its imperial plans. As a result, nearly all Western leaders did not take the actions of the Putin regime in Crimea and eastern Ukraine seriously enough in 2014. School of International Relations Institute Senior Lecturer Stephen Getins stated this at the event “War in Ukraine: Development, Trends, Results”.

According to the expert, after Russia’s actions in Georgia and Syria, a war in Ukraine could be expected. But Western politicians did not see the danger from the Russian Federation. For example, the same Great Britain did not fight at all with the introduction of “dirty” Russian money into the financial market.

Getins also believes that Ukraine today is the epicenter of conversations about the future of Europe.

Also, professor of international relations practice Mark de Vore said that many in the West do not believe in a full-blown Russian invasion.

“I think we in the West collectively underestimate two things: how revisionist the Russian government is – as much as it is ready to use force to re-establish what looks like an empire – and how illogical they are,” he said.

He also noted that the West believes that it would be very difficult for the Russian Federation to attack and completely capture another country. They believed that Moscow would be too rational and would fear sanctions from Europe and the United States.

“We have exaggerated their rationality or underestimated their irrationality,” the expert said.

According to him, the West still has no understanding of the future of Russia and with whom to negotiate about the security order in Europe. In order for the dialogue to begin, a government that will accept the national borders and sovereignty of the countries as a principle should sit in the Kremlin.

Also, according to de Vore, Ukraine’s EU and NATO membership will only enrich Europe.

Recall that on April 11, the head of the Danish Ministry of Defense announced the deadline for deciding on combat aircraft for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Western allies disputed supplies with the Americans. The media note that so far not a single modern aircraft requested by the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been provided.

Also on April 9, Russia complained to the EU and explained why it invaded Ukraine. After the signing of the Minsk agreements, Russia once again reminded how “the West deceived the Kremlin”, which did not want to comply with Moscow’s terms.
