Blue flash over Kiev: NASA answers if Ukrainians could see satellite fall

Earlier, the US space agency announced that the RHESSI satellite will enter the atmosphere on April 19. Currently, NASA and the Pentagon have assured that they will continue to monitor him.

NASA dismissed the version that a bright blue flash in the sky over Kiev and the Kiev region was associated with a satellite. This is known from BBC material.

The US space agency said the satellite is still in orbit. According to Rob Margetta of the NASA Communications Directorate, RHESSI was also in orbit at the time of the flare over the capital city and should only enter Earth’s atmosphere in the morning, Kiev time.

However, Margaretta stressed that NASA and the US Department of Defense continue to monitor the satellite.

The media added that previously the space agency had warned that RHESSI, weighing 300 kilograms, would enter the atmosphere on April 19. It has been used to observe solar flares since 2002, but was decommissioned in 2018.

Recall that on April 19, the people of Kiev noticed a bright blue glow in the sky. The head of the OP, Andriy Yermak, explained this through the work of air defense, but later deleted his message and urged the Ukrainians to await clarification from the Air Force.

Later, the head of KMVA, Sergei Popko, explained that the epidemic caused the NASA satellite to crash. The Air Force said they could not confirm this version. The authors of The Alpha Centauri educational project also reject the fall of the satellite.
