Japan steps up sanctions against Moscow in response to invasion of Ukraine

The Japanese government announced this inclusion of new Russian individuals and entities in the sanctions adopted by Tokyo after the invasion of Ukraine. and expand its export restrictions to include building materials.

For the “purpose of promoting international efforts” for a peaceful settlement of the conflict, Japan today announced the addition of 24 individuals and 78 entities to the lists affected by the war-related asset freeze. and the annexation of Crimea and other territories by Russia, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

More than 700 Russians fell under sanctions

Under these measures, individuals and entities subject to sanctions may not make payments and capital transactions in Japan.

Taking into account the new victims, mainly (17) people associated with the Russian army and their families.s, the list of individuals subject to these sanctions is 700, and the list of legal entities is 207, according to updated data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sanctions will affect another 311 people associated with the annexation of Crimea and other territories seized from Ukraine.among them are some self-proclaimed new authorities in Lugansk, Donetsk and Zaporozhye.


Tokyo also announced the inclusion of 80 new entities that will be affected by trade restrictions, in particular sensitive export goods, to “contribute to the improvement of Russia’s industrial capacity.”

In this sense, organizations were added that could receive products intended “for the engineering and construction sectors,” Hirokazu Matsuno, spokesman for the Japanese government, explained at a press conference.

Thus, already 437 Russian companies and organizations are included in Japan’s list of export restrictions, which, among other things, covers technologies and materials with potential military applications or luxury goods.
