Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy called it “unthinkable” that US President Joe Biden is indicting his key rival in the 2024 election, Donald Trump.

This is a dark day for America. It is inconceivable that the president would bring charges against the main candidate who opposes him.“, – RIA Novosti quotes McCarthy.

The congressman noted that Biden himself kept secret documents for decades, but no one accused him of this.

McCarthy also stressed his support for Trump, who had previously called the allegations “election interference.”

The congressman considered the accusations themselves “blatantly unfair.”

Earlier, Trump himself said that through his lawyers he was charged with illegal possession of classified documents and he is obliged to appear in court on June 13. At the same time, he blamed the “corrupt Biden administration” for what was happening.

Recall that, in addition to the investigation of illegal possession of secret documents, several more criminal cases have been opened against Trump. So he is accused of forging documents and more than 30 episodes of business fraud.

The American media believe that the first criminal prosecution of an ex-president in US history will rally Trump’s supporters and turn him into a martyr.

The former president himself called the accusations election interference and an attack on the United States, and also called on Americans to protest. His supporters adhere to the same position: for example, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green called for the impeachment of the current US President Joe Biden.
