The Russian station “Luna-25” sent to Earth the first detailed image of the lunar surface, taken with the help of STS-L cameras. “Luna-25” demonstrated the south polar crater Zeeman, located on the far side of the Earth.

The Zeeman crater has aroused great interest among scientists. The height of the shaft around reaches 8 kilometers, towering above a flat bottom.

The picture was taken at 8:23 Moscow time, when the automatic station flew over the crater. Interestingly, the far side of the Earth’s satellite was first photographed by the predecessor of Luna-25, the Soviet station Luna-3, which took pictures in October 1959.

Recall that the station made the first space selfies on the way to the moon – they were shown on the portal Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“Luna-25” showed the Earth and the Moon – structural elements also got into the picture.

The automatic station was launched with a Soyuz launch vehicle, which took off from the Vostochny cosmodrome. The main task of the apparatus is to carefully examine the surface of the moon.
